“Weird Al” Yankovic’s “Mandatory Fun”

WeirdAlYankovic_MandatoryFunLast week “Weird Al” Yankovic started his 8 videos in 8 days campaign for his new album “Mandatory Fun.” Today it was announced that his album has hit #1 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart, his first #1 album. His previous best was his previous album, 2011’s “Alpocalypse” which debuted and peaked at #9.

Beginning on Monday, July 14, videos were released daily for the following videos: “Tacky” (parody of Pharrell’s “Happy”), “Word Crimes” (parody of Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines”), “Foil” (parody of Lorde’s “Royals”), Weird_al_yankovic_word_crimes_titlecardHandy” (parody of Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy”),Β “Sports Song” (a marching band type song), “First World Problems” (in the style of “The Pixies”), “Lame Claim To Fame” (in the style of Southern Culture on the Skids),Β and “Mission Statement” (in the style of Crosby, Stills, and Nash).

WeirdAlYankovic_FoilOf the eight posted thus far, the first three are my favorites, with “Word Crimes” possibly being my favorite of them all. And yes, for the record, I do like the Oxford Comma. πŸ™‚

Congratulations on his longevity and creative genius.
