Chart Debuts – 16 February 1980

BillboardDebuts16Feb1980Billboard.com has recently offered archives of all of their Top 100 charts. I find this very intriguing as I can scour the charts to not only relive the glory of chart-busting songs, but also to look at long-forgotten songs and those songs that barely made an impact on the charts.

So from 35 years ago today, here are some notable songs that debuted on the Billboard Hot 100…

Off The Wall – Michael Jackson
Ride Like The Wind – Christopher Cross
Call Me – Blondie
Cars – Gary Numan
What I Like About You – The Romantics
Brass In Pocket (I’m Special) – Pretenders

And the others that you may not have heard in years, if ever…

Sexy Eyes – Dr. Hook
Voice of Freedom – Jim Kirk and the TM Singers
Women – Foreigner
Small Paradise – John Cougar (Mellencamp)
Desire – Rockets
You Are My Heaven – Roberta Flack with Donny Hathaway
